The Effect of the Rural Elderly¡¯s Health Literacy on Depression

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate a possible relationship between a health literacy of a rural elderly and a depression. Using the 2017 survey conducted on the human rights conditions of rural elderly with the help of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, 800 rural elderly aged 65 years and above from Gyeonggi-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeollanam-do were surveyed and analyzed. The study used t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analysis, as well as multiple regression analysis, provided in the STATA13 statistical package to conduct descriptive analysis. The result showed that the elderly¡¯s Health Literacy had negative effects on depression. Based on the results, the study proposed practical policies in order to prevent depression of the rural elderly.
